I joined Delhaize Group a bit over one year ago and I already worked in three countries: I discovered how important the customer is in our day to day operations at Mega Image in Romania, I learned about Supply Chain in the U.S., and now I am learning Greek at Alfa Beta.

  The wide array of opportunities that the program offers is incomparable to almost anything out there in the workforce for recent college graduates. Over the last year I have worked in every part of a supermarket, as a Category Analyst in a corporate office setting in Brussels, and am now in North Carolina in Talent Acquisition. I have seen how bananas are warehoused, and been witness to the cultural differences of in-store assortments around the world. From day trips to London for market research and learning, to grand opening recruiting events in Philadelphia.

  My time in Alfa Beta’s Marketing & Strategy department was fascinating; I had the opportunity to lead a project in a completely new environment. Fueled by the exchange of ideas with an open and creative team, I was given full autonomy to control my project’s direction. While continuously developing my leadership competency, I also enriched my understanding of Greek operations and fully immersed myself into a new culture, positioning myself as a multinational leader to lead across cultural boundaries.

  The main points of ownership, looking for people with the capabilities to be entrepreneurial, to lead, that’s what really attracted me to this program; coupled with international exposure and the desire to develop the future leaders of the company and you have the recipe for the dream job. My second turn brought me to Delhaize America where I had the opportunity to work along-side a world class Supply Chain team; their spirit of continuously improving business processes, together with an immersive culture fostering strong values really got me excited and motivated to work and to get challenged, to be challenged.

My agenda is always full with meetings, learning sessions, visits, conferences… I love the fact that I don’t feel like a number at Delhaize, everybody is helpful and treats me like a member of their group.

  My trainee experience has been impressing so far. The chance to go through different stores in the first six months, allows me to get a great overview of how retailing works. I’ve already managed to develop a "retailing perception", meaning that now when I enter any store, I start recognizing things that I wasn’t able to recognize before the program; planograms, the way fruit is piled up, positioning of the private brands on the shelves, etc. (© Nebojsa Markovic/blic)

  If I were to choose one reason why this job attracted me so much, I honestly wouldn’t know how to pick one; is it the international experience, the constant challenge, or the experience you get from all the rotations?
